GENERAL QUERIES


Q- I have read the Important Announcement from the Board of Governors. What does it mean for me?
A - The Scholarship Programme is suspended for 2009. We will announce future plans after a comprehensive assessment of the education sector, the needs of students and the best way in which TPF can serve its commitment to supporting the construction of a knowledge society.

Q-
Are the online forms valid for every year ?
A- No , every year it is changed. this year specifically so. Please Note that on our website you will find the form relevant for that year alone and not any other version.

Q-  What is the right time to apply?
A-  If your course starts in November, December, January 2008 - then you are not eligible for our scholarships for year 2008! Plan for next year. The Paul Foundation’s schedule is best suited for candidates taking up places at university in August-September 2008. We do not make exceptions. The interview is mandatory. The short-listed candidate must appear before the Selection Committee in person. The Selection Committee meets only once, that is, in June-July as per our current schedule.

Advice: You can ask the university to defer your admission by six months

Q-  What do you need to know about me?

A-  To initiate a dialogue with the Paul foundation you should state your Name,Age ,Present course of study ,Planned course of study for which you need scholarship. For any questions relating to applications for the scholarships, please ask only if the query list here does not not answer the same. This is exhaustive and covers most of the questions that you may have. We will not be repeating to persistent mails on topics which have been answered here.


Q- Does The Paul Foundation support the course/subject that I wish to study?

A- The scholarships are open for academic courses through taught programmes that contribute positively to building a learning and knowledge society. The choice of subjects is diverse, but not all-inclusive.

Humanities, Social Sciences, Basic Sciences, Applied Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Management, the Fine Arts, Performing Arts.
The list of subjects is not all-inclusive. The Paul Foundation does not provide scholarships for professional and diploma courses such as fashion design, interior design, culinary courses etc, as the aim of these courses is not compatible with the vision and ideology of The Paul Foundation.
Scholarship applications for management studies is only for courses that will help create community leaders and provide training to handle socially responsible programmes.

Scholarship applications for medical research are considered only if the project can be dealt with individually by the applicant, and applications for research in the areas of biochemistry, physiology, genetics and related fields are generally preferred.

Scholarship applications for legal studies are considered only if the applicant wishes to pursue a course dealing with the philosophy of law or interdisciplinary studies in law and jurisprudence that aim to alter and improve legal systems.

We support taught programmes leading up to a recognized degree, which includes Post Graduate studies, Doctoral Studies, Diplomas in a particular area of specialization. The purpose of the application must be compatible with the vision and ideology of The Paul Foundation. We want our scholars to contribute to the knowledge resources of society, expand the frontiers of knowledge and understanding, strive to make a difference through thoughtful and thought-provoking work that enrich and empower other lives. We believe that those we help will in turn help others fulfill their aspirations.

Post Graduate Studies, Doctoral Studies, Specialisations including Professional Courses –through taught university programmes at top ranked universities, institutes, centre in India and Overseas.

Often the choice of specialization reflects the end purposes of the applicant, which may fit in with The Paul Foundation’s vision, that is, to make a difference for the scholars who wish to pursue academic excellence and the quest for knowledge so that they can, in turn, through thoughtful and thought-provoking work make a difference.

Q- Do you have a need based scheme?
A-Yes, It is primarily a merit scheme, but we do consider that an applicant may not have the means to support his/her merit.

Q- Is there any age criteria for applying for scholarship. Can somebody who has 9 years of work experience apply for scholarship for further
     studies?

A- So long as you do not cross the 30 year age bar, as on November 1, 2007.

Q- Is a wish to study abroad enough to get The Paul Foundation Scholarship?
A- Absolutely Not

Q- Some universities permit you to apply for further studies before your Graduation/Post Graduation is over, provided you submit the final mark sheets to them. Can I apply to you in anticipation of being accepted ?
A- Yes. At the time of applying you need to send to us photocopies of the application which you have made to these University/Universities.


Q- I am a Tibetan by birth but have been living in India from a very young age. Am I eligible?
A- If you are not an Indian, you are not eligible.

Q- I received admission to a course last year but could not go because of money constraints. The offer is open to me this year too. Can I apply to
     you on that basis ?

A- Yes. Please apply.

Q- Do you fund scholarships in any overseas university?
A- No. It has to be a recognised and accredited university as per listings which The Paul Foundation regularly consults. Please apply to whichever university you consider most suitable for your purposes. The acceptability of that university is our discretion.

Q- Do I need TOEFL and GRE scores to submit application to you even if the Universities I am interested in do not require these?
A- No, you do not need to submit TOEFL or GRE scores to the The Paul Foundation if the University you are applying to does not require it.

Q- What if I have completed my Post Graduate studies (not 10+2+3 ) Does that mean I can apply, if I fulfill all other requisite criteria?
A- 10+2+3 is our minimum requirement. If you are studying for your Post Graduate degree or have completed it, you can apply as long as you meet our age/education and other criteria.

Q- I am applying for U.S universities for fall 2008 (August-September-October 2008). Admissions will be confirmed probably during the months of
    April – May, The Paul Foundation application submition deadline is February 15th, can I apply?

A- You can apply provided you have submitted an application to the university in USA and have received an acknowledgement that your application has been accepted for consideration. We are aware that the confirmation of admission can take longer. We insist that you let us know as and when you receive confirmation of admission. If you are short listed for interview by us, you have to show documentary proof of admission.


Q- What category - professional or post-graduate - should I apply to?
A- The Paul Foundation accepts applications from students who have completed their undergraduate studies. Only in exceptional cases where the academic performance of the applicant has been outstanding, do we accept an application from a student who is in the final year of the undergraduate programme.

Q- Do you sponsor visits to conference / training abroad?
A- No, We do not. Please do not submit such requests.


Q- When do I apply? How do I apply? What do you need to receive an application form?

A-
1. Advertisement is released in The Times of India, all editions, Hindu, Chennai and The Telegraph, Kolkata on November 21, 2007. 

2. You can download an application form from the www.thepaulfoundation.org website. This download is available in Word document and PDF. Remember your Id number (C--) which you will get after you register on the website. Write this number down in the page 4 in the Form Number space.

3. You can collect an application form from The Paul Foundation, Apeejay House, 15 Park Street, Kolkata 700016 from November 26, 2007.

4. To receive an application form, The Paul Foundation does not require you to show any documents. The forms are available at no cost.

5. If you want a form sent to you by surface mail, please send us a stamped self addressed envelope of Rs 10

6. Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope of Rs 5 in order to receive 1. the acknowledgement that we have received your application and 2. the letter notifying if your application has been successful or unsuccessful.

7. Please note that the last date on which applications will be sent to you is February 1, 2008.

8. The last date for submitting completed applications is February 15, 2008.
